little eden 2007
The week was fantastic. Friends and family spent time lounging, swimming, playing, eating, sitting by the fire, and fishing. Next year we'll transition from fishing to fishing & catching.

I was fortunate enough to accept an invitation to fish for walleye and steelhead trout with Jeff, Todd, Mitch, and Paul. We left around 5:30 am so we could be on the water around 10 am just off the coast of Lorain Ohio. Todd, Mitch and Paul obviously knew what to do and soon the boat was filling up with big walleyes and steelheads. By 3:00 or 4:00 pm, we had caught 30 walleyes and 3 nice steelheads.

Mom and Dad stopped in and stayed with us for the weekend during their big trip through the mid-west. We went mushroom hunting and fishing on Saturday. The woods were full of flowers, but lacked many morels. We found four. The crappie were biting and my daughter caught the biggest one I have ever seen. It was 13.5" and about 1.5 lbs.

Doug and I went to Madeline Bertrand park to do some night skiing. This was my first experience on cross country skis. It was bitter cold (around 7° F), but I exerted so much energy trying to stay up on the first round that only my fingers became numb. As you can see in the photo, my brow was soaked. I think there is ice in my hair from frozen perspiration.
We warmed up with some hot chocolate at the Bertrand lodge and then went out for another tour. The trail had an occasional electric and gas lights on short poles, but had I not strapped my bike light to my ski pole, I would have stuggled with feeling disoriented. There was no moonlight to help us see in the dark areas between the lights.
